Happy Child (Nomataba Orphanage)
We mostly just play with the children at the orphanage. The children's social worker tells us that that is what they need the most. She says that they have seemed a lot more happy since we started coming by a couple times a week to play with the kids for an hour or so. Human interaction is helping them open up despite the horrible experiences they went through before coming to the orphanage.
Lane and Ketra.... Happy Girl
Several weeks ago, we walked around our neighborhood with our friends Moses and Tony to find out about the children with disabilities in our neighborhood. One little boy, Sam, is blind and has cerebral palsy and brain swelling. He is cross-legged most of the time and rarely gets to sit up straight. Another problem is that he has to sit in his own waste. Moses suggested making him a chair that will allow him to sit up straight, uncross his legs and that can be used as a toilet.
With the help of some local wood workers, this is the chair we delivered to Sam's family. I helped sew zippers on sugar bags. The family can get saw dust and wood shavings for free. Once they are filled, Sam can use them for seat and back cushions. Once again, learning how to sew in 8th grade arts and crafts class came in handy.

Building a School in Seya Village
We (they) have been making steady progress on the school. We hope to have it done by 01 August so that we can have a grand opening party in the first week of August.
Fastest way to move a pile of bricks closer to the work site: Enlist a school of volunteers. Who needs pallets and backhoes right?

Business Classes In Lugazi
One of the students who comes to business classes brought his little girls. They are twins. Twins here are looked very highly upon. Interesting fact: When a mother has twins, she is no longer referred to by her original name. She is called (I forgot the word) which is a name reserved especially for women who have twins. Another interesting fact: If one twin is engaged and the other isn't, she must wait for her twin before she/they can get married.
Lane, I want you to know I drove all the way through Holbrook Arizona!!! We drove through on our way home (just after visiting the Canyon de Chelly) and I was SO excited. We even stopped at the McDonald's there! And there was a place with big fake dinosaurs outside of it. I wanted to take pictures to prove it to you and I'm kicking myself for not doing it! I tried to look for your dad's business but I didn't know what it was called.
